Jennifer Belle — author, provocateur, and really nice person — kicked off BookHampton's first Ladies Night in Southampton on Monday, July 11 with her signature wit and thoughtfulness. The audience's laughter punctuated Belle's reading from her latest novel, The Seven Year Bitch, a story navigating the rocky terrain of relationships led by a witty and neurotic heroine. Think Woody Allen in a skirt.
Belle graciously answered questions from the audience, primarily involving the writing process and specifically how one goes about writing sex scenes, along with discussing what men choose to read versus what women choose. Authenticity highlighted the evening's conversation, as the author stressed it must in one's own craft.
Belle's measure of sweetness combined with deadpan humor infected us all in the best way. Everyone left the event a bit lighter for having attended the reading, and we all look forward to the next night in the series when Gail Sheehy reads from her latest, Passages in Caregiving on Monday, July 18.
Jennifer Belle's novels are available on our website. We also have a limited number of signed copies of Seven Year Bitch.
Don't miss an evening with Katie Lee, tonight at 8:00pm in Sag Harbor. She's the next guest in our On the Edge series. For the complete list of upcoming events at BookHampton, check out our Calendar.
